Arrive in Style

Often, you see the bride arrive with her father and/or her attendants in a limousine. This is an affordable route to take. Just remember to visit the company you may be choosing. That way you'll be able to see specifically which car you will have on your wedding day.

And don't forget to check on the color. Limousines come in white, gray, navy and black. You may not be happy when a black limo pulls up to your front door, if you've been expecting a white chariot to arrive.

For the big, dramatic getaway (or arrival) couples are selecting everything from the romantic to the humorous to the outrageous — and everything in between.

One time, a couple I was working with got married on an island in a lake in New Jersey. They left the ceremony on a sailboat — with the sail painted to match the colors of the wedding. Guests enthusiastically greeted the couple at their reception site, a woodsy lodge, by throwing rose petals and blowing bubbles.

Some unique transportation ideas you might want to explore include:

  • Horseback
  • A horse-pulled carriage, sleigh or hay wagon
  • Classic car or unique limo, such as a stretch Hum-V or stretch Corvette
  • A fleet of the same car, such as white Jeeps
  • Golf carts
  • Snowmobiles
  • Hot air balloons
  • A motorcycle or bicycle built-for-two
  • A boat
  • A small, chartered airplane
  • A helicopter
  • A trolley or specialty bus

You may also want to think of your guests' transportation, especially when many may be traveling to a place they don't know well or a destination wedding.

When I plan a destination wedding, I encourage my clients to hire a plane or bus for everyone. It's a great way to get the guests in the mood for your event. You can show a video of the bride and groom including baby pictures, how they met and how they got engaged. These traveling venues also allow for the opportunity for live entertainment and games.

Adding special transportation to your wedding day can make the difference between creating a ho-hum event and a truly memorable wedding day. Once the details are in place, you'll just need to sit back and enjoy the ride.
