When and Where in the World?
The Destination
Profile Your Destination
Where in the world do you want to be married? What kind of destination would best suit you and your intended? What would be meaningful or reflect your personalities? Some couples just know, but others just know that they want to go somewhere, but where? If you are among the free thinkers who have no real reason for having a destination wedding besides just wanting one, you should first ask yourselves the following questions: Should we set this up like a real quiz like a form so it is more interactive?
If you could be married anywhere in the world where would you go?
What time of the year would best suit your schedule?
Do you have any ethnic ties to a particular part of the world?
Do you have any history in any particular part of the world?
Do you have friends or family in any fabulous destinations?
Do you want a religious ceremony? If so, what religion?
What is your definition of romance? A beach, a castle, a yacht, a mountain, a bridge, flying, diving, a spa, or a private villa?
Do you see yourself wearing short sleeves and pants or a flowing gown and tuxedo? Cotton and silk or velvets and furs?
What type of flowers would you like to carry or wear? In what countries or regions would they be easy to find?
What kind of cuisine makes your mouth water? French, Indian, Mediterranean?
Do you want to play golf, swim, sail, hike, shop, visit museums, or attend plays?
What kind of music makes you want to dance? Calypso, big band, meringue, polka, rock, rhythm and blues, Celtic?
What languages do you and your intended speak?
Is it important to you to be legally married at the destination or are you willing to go through the legal steps at home either before or after the destination wedding celebration? I ask because if you are not, you limit your options to destinations that allow foreign marriages which does include the majority of the destinations featured in this book.
How far are you willing to fly? Does it have to be a direct flight?
How much do you want the flight and accommodations to cost for your guests?
Once you answer all of these questions you should have a pretty good profile of an ideal destination and you should be able to eliminate a lot and maybe even identify what continent or sea you are most interested in.
