Mayan Marriage of Many
February 18, 2012 (Chatham, NY) – Lisa Light of Destination Bride, LLC is celebrating 20 years of planning weddings by producing a wedding for as many as 12 couples and their guests on the Mayan palace ruin of *Cahal Pech in Belize on 12-12-12.Light first became fascinated with Belize in 2005 when she was writing her book, Destination Bride: A Guide to Planning Your Wedding Anywhere in the World. In researching, she discovered that Belize is a country that is easy to get to, simple to navigate as the official language is English and authentically exotic. Belize is most unique because of the fact that couples can actually be married on one of their 600 Mayan ruins! Mexico is most known for its ruins, yet they barely allow couples to take photos there, let along get married on the historic sites.
Belize is also unique because it is home to the second largest coral reef in the world. The hotels are primarily located on the largest of the 200 cayes, which is Ambergris. The reef is actually a Unesco World Heritage Site and one of the top snorkeling and diving destinations in the world.
“On December 21, 2012, the world as we know it will end” – or so it’s thought by those who believe next year’s end to the 5126-year-old Mayan calendar signals the end of time. However, Maya descendants in Belize, the epicenter of the ancient Mayan world, reject popular doomsday scenarios, and instead see the calendar’s end as a joyous time of spiritual rebirth and new beginnings. What better way to celebrate new beginnings than with a wedding shared by 12 couples from around the world?
In honor of this historic moment, the National Institute of Cultural and History (NICH) of Belize is allowing Romantic Travel Belize and Lisa Light of Destination Bride, LLC to host the “Maya Marriage of Many,” scheduled for the last of the alliteration dates on 12/12/12. This will be the first and only time a mass marriage will be permitted to take place on the ruins as each couple’s love story is forever weaved in the fabric of Mayan culture and tradition. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to NICH for the preservation of the ruins and the reef.
Light, who has a degree in anthropology, and a love of Latin America in general, could not think of a better way to celebrate 20 years of planning weddings in all four corners of the globe.
