Adirondack Weddings
Light, also known as "The Wedding Anthropologist" due to her background in anthropology, and her passion for weddings around the world, has become an authority on destination, inter-faith and multi-cultural weddings. She has appeared in several publications including Modern Bride and Hudson Valley Magazine, and has also done extensive TV and radio interviews on the topics of weddings and event planning. She is the founder and president of Lisa Light Ltd., an omni-media, special events company, and owner of DestinationBride.com.
According to Light, the biggest trend for the year will be destination weddings — and she believes the Southern Adirondacks area is a unique and beautiful place to hold such a wedding. "People today are not just looking at their hometowns anymore. They want a unique location," says Light. "The area provides a great backdrop, and there are several unique — and affordable options."
Light's list of Adirondack wedding hot spots includes:
- Point-o-Pines (aka Jimbos). "This beautiful property on Brant Lake has a wonderful rustic, yet elegant quality, making it ideal for a family-oriented wedding," she says.
- Friends Lake Inn. "With an Adirondack feel, an outstanding wine list, and gourmet foods, this Inn on Friends Lake provides elegance and grace," explains Light.
- Saratoga Auto Museum. "Great for a car buff's theme wedding, guests enjoy a reception surrounded by vintage automobiles," she says.
- National Museum of Dance. "Located in the former Washington Bath House in the Saratoga Spa State Park, this museum is a spacious airy 1918 Arts and Crafts-style building which lends it self perfectly for a unique, artistic wedding," says Light.
