Ecuador | Latin America

Ecuador is considered one of the most ecologically diverse countries in the world, having more species of both flora and fauna than most anywhere. What an amazingly beautiful backdrop for a South American destination wedding! It's also a major center for sports, art, food, and film.

Mainland Ecuador is described in three regions: La Costa, low-lying pacific costal regions to the west; La Sierra, "the highlands" running north to south dominated by the Andes mountain range; and El Oriente, comprising the spectacular Amazon rainforest.

Ecuador is also home to the Galapagos Islands, or Región Insular. Teaming with a wide variety of exotic - and unusually friendly! - wildlife, these islands are the ultimate in ecological wedding destinations. There are many opportunities to experience this treasure - cruise ship, scuba dive, hiking, and more!

Although the smallest of all the Andean countries, The Republic of Ecuador holds historical, cultural and natural wonders befitting an entire continent.  Straddling not only two hemispheres but also two worlds - the ancient and the modern - this tiny republic with its remnants of past civilizations and Spanish conquests offers the traveler a striking blend of landscapes, peoples and cultures.

From ancient markets of the indigenous peoples, Amazon tributaries, Inca ruins, Andean peaks, 16th century churches, and the wildlife-rich Galapagos Islands, Ecuador boasts an incredible diversity which belies its diminutive size. Indigenous cultures, tropical forests, active volcanoes, and a wealth of animal and bird life are all highly accessible within a matter of hours in a country no bigger than the U.S. State of Colorado.
