France | Europe

What could be more romantic than being married in the very country which invented romance? Medieval castles, fine wines, elegant gardens, art and culture abound. Glorious landscapes from the tree lined Parisian boulevards to the Cote D'Azur to the Alps to lavender fields in Provence make choosing a destination in France difficult.

However, unless you are marrying a French citizen or permanent resident, you must be prepared to take up residence in France for 40 days. Despite the hoopla of celebrity weddings taking place in France, chances are the couple tied the legal knot in their home country and had the religious ceremony in la belle France.

Getting Married In France

A wedding ceremony or a honeymoon in France will combine the traditional values of marriage and the most exciting celebration in dramatic sceneries! A civil wedding in France requires legal procedures and advance planning, as well as a minimum stay of 4 weeks to complete the necessary documentation prior to the legal ceremony .

Or you can have a legal wedding in your own country, and then choose either a religious ceremony or your honeymoon in France . Both will offer you a romantic and picturesque setting for that special day.

From a royal chateau to a yacht wedding, France offers a great variety of memorable places and fabulous experience. Sailing on the Seine in Paris or by a romantic fishermen's village on the Mediterranean. In the Renaissance private chateau, presently summer residence of a prince (who will also attend your ceremony) In a sumptuous mansion on the French Riviera or at the little chapel at the flower market in Nice,...And......candlelight dinner, and a horse-driven carriage or a chauffeur-driven vintage car, and a bilingual assistant.

A Parisian Wedding on the Seine

It is no secret that I love water and boats of any kind or shape. So naturally I think that a party or a wedding on the river Seine would be one of the most romantic weddings imaginable.

I had the pleasure of meeting Monsieur Christian Gonnard, Captain and owner of of the yacht Kitikae, and Parisian boat concierge at our networking soiree at Yachts de Paris.

His boat, the Kitikae is an absolutely lovely old wooden motor boat built in the 1920's. She is available for charter on the Seine, inside Paris and out,  for as many as 12 passengers for short day-cruises and for over-night cruises for 2 passengers. It is equipped with a very functional kitchen, a commodious state room complete with bathroom and toilet, and a second stateroom for the crew. On deck, guests can lounge on teak chairs or dine on a teak table shaded by a canapy.

I think it would be absolutely fabulous for either a small welcome party or rehearsal dinner or for a honeymoon!!! But Christian’s favorite “cruises” are the engagment cruises. The groom charters the boat for a Paris by

Night cruise or a sunset cruise complete with a gourmet meal and Champagne. Then just as the Kitikae makes its way under one of the famous Parisian bridges, the couple is showered with the petals of 1000 roses as the groom proposes her hand in marriage! Now that is what I call romance….If the Kitikae is too small for your group, Christian will find the perfect boat or yacht for you. He will help you “navigate” the many, many options and ensure that you hire a boat that is appropriate, safe and professional for your event. If once you find the boat of your dreams, you still need certain services such as a caterer, florist, audio-visual services, music or anything else,  he will help put it in place.

La Belle Vie in France

Picture of La Belle Vie, FranceI am currently working from France for both personal and professional reasons. I lived here 22 years ago and have many strong ties to wonderful places and people whom I wanted to reconnect with. I am also here because France is one of the top visited destinations in the world for vacations and one of the most popular wedding destinations in the world, so therefore, thought it was high time I research some Fabulous Finds for all of you who might want to tie the knot in France.

There are many reasons attributed to the popularity of France...most importantly it is so diverse!!!! Within just a couple of hours you can be in Paris or the Loire, or at the Mediterranean Sea, or the Alps or the Atlantic Ocean just to name a few regions. And it's natural diversity is complimented by a wide variety of architecture, cuisine and customs making it a very colorful  and fascinating destination.  Add to that the joie de vivre, fine food and fashion that comes with the setting and you have a perfect playground for a magnificent wedding celebration!

I will be here exploring  France for a month in search of Fabulous Finds to share with you. I will also be hosting a Soiree in Paris for wedding professionals so that we can continue to grow our worldwide network and refer the best venues and vendors to our destination brides and their grooms.

Stay tuned!!! Lisa Light
