Jamaica | Caribbean

As the third largest island in the Caribbean, and one of the first to recognize and appreciate the destination wedding market, Jamaica offers a wonderful variety of wedding destinations, options, and resources.

Couples can plan their wedding at one of the 150 plus hotels and resorts; on many miles of sparkling white beaches; in the jungle; in the mist of the Blue Mountains; on an historic coffee or sugar plantation; by (or under!) the cascading water of Dunn's River Falls; drifting down the Martha Brae River (one of 120 rivers on the island) on a raft; on a private island; at an exclusive, privately owned villa; in a garden surrounded by exotic orchids and butterflies; underwater, as your guests watch from a glass bottom boat; or perhaps at the James Bond GoldenEye Estate. Or, if you're really looking for something different, you can say "I do" on the beach, in the buff!

Design Ideas | Jamaica

Welcome your guests with a “taste of Jamaica” basket or calabash, filled with local nutmeg, jerk sauces, coffee, and rum. Nature provides several possiblilities for wedding décor, such as sand, coral, conch shells, bamboo, palms, tropical fish, or flowers from the lignum vitae tree. This “Tree of Life” (so named for its medicinal quality) bears the national flower, a lavender-blue blossom in spring and summer. If you are interested in orchids, contact green castle orchid growers (876-382-7840).

There is nothing like Caribbean music to get a party going. The island is teaming with talented jazz musicians, whom you could hire for entertainment. And of course, no celebration in Jamaica is complete without a little calypso and some reggae. You could even adopt a Rasta theme for your wedding in honor of native Bob Marley.

Celebrate the bounty of the sea and flavors of the island with fresh seafood and spicy meats, ackee and other tropical fruits, coconut, yams and chocolate. To top off the meal, serve rum punch and traditional Jamaican wedding cake. This dark cake is made with rum-soaked dried fruits, such as raisins, dates, currants, and cherries, then, finished with crisp white frosting and flowers. Traditionally slices of the cake are mailed in little boxes to friends and relatives who could not attend the wedding, and the top tier of the cake is kept for the christening of the couple’s first child.

Rose Hall Resort Offers a Taste of Old World Jamaica

Rose Hall - JamaicaWhen people think about weddings in Jamaica they immediately think of romantic beach weddings at sunset, but this is a setting that can be found on any island or coast in the world. One of the reasons I love planning weddings in Jamaica is that the island has so much more to offer than sandy beaches. The history, the culture and the landscape are diverse and colorful and offer wonderful options for designing a destination wedding.
